President Obama recently joined researchers and patient advocates to talk about the promise of precision medicine. As an invited guest, geneticist Mathew Pletcher, Autism Speaks’ interim chief science officer, participated in a panel discussing ways in which precision medicine is already being used to guide and improve healthcare – and how this progress can be accelerated and broadened.
Autism is the fastest growing developmental disorder, affecting 1 in 88 children born today. It occurs in all racial, ethnic, and social groups and is four times more likely to strike boys than girls.
